Well, "ask and ye shall receive", James Black has come to my/our rescue with two plans of this type of roundhouse and a series of photos of the Cowra loco shed taken in 2005 that show the lights between the last track and the side wall!

Photos Untitled24 and Untitled25 show the side lights suspended from a beam that is between the wall truss and the next truss towards the track in the shed.
Another detail I notice is that the timbers aren't black as I would expect but more a dark reddish colour with an 'overspray' of black, just in time for my spraying.
Now James has caused me another problem! A couple of photos show the belt drive for lathes, etc. mounted on one end wall. I think I might draw the line now or I will never finish the shed (this wall will not be easily visible on the layout).

re the timbers being red & not black.
Bare in mind that little steam has worked in the roundhouse for years, the affect of years of smoke & soot, would have well gone from the area. The same thing happened at WCK even when they only had the 2 TF's on the shunters, as the dags did not cling to the timbers.
Even in steam days though, they were not true black as such, more dirty dark grey.

A medium to dark grey with some black overspray should work well then.

Sent a couple of pics of Harden hope you got them.
The dirty time in sheds was light up time as the sort from the deiseline soaked wood shavings & coal interacted, that left a clammy lot of sooty & greasy dags everywhere, it was rotten cleaning off a fresh lit engine. However by the mid week, movement blowers etc would clean a lot out of the areas.
When between jobs the engines only had a bank under the door & maintained in order to keep steam & water, & blowers off except when tending the fire. The smoke was basically clean (in a sense) but easily washed/hosed off.
I also never saw a depot that did not have broken glass & the wind coming through created some poor working conditions, but surprisingly, the only muck from up in the frame was from pigeons.
You are doing an exceptional job & I'm watching the progress with interest.
I used a paint on my Harmon coal stage I built some time back called moonlight or similar. It was very much a dirty black grey colour & perfect for that area

I got the photos thanks, I have only just had a chance to check my emails (10:58pm).
I was looking at James Black's photos and thoguht that the pigeon dropping would make a nice easy prototypical weathering effect, a little bit of dry brushing with some off-white.
I have also considered carefully cutting out some random panes from the clear printed rear windows of the kit, have to be very careful though.
